LP #5: Word: Integration

Assigned: Wed, Sept 12 (for Section 2); Due: at the start of class on Fri, Sept 14 (for Section 2);
Purpose: To ensure your familiarity with integrating Excel charts and worksheets in Word.

Follow the instructions in the integration chapter and submit your word document with all the information covered up to WD 476 (without links). Do not e-mail the document.

LP #4: Word: Chapter 6

Assigned: , August 31 (for Section 2);
Tues, Sept 11 (for Section 4)
Due: 15 minutes before class on Wed, Sept 12 (for Section 2);
15 minutes before class on Thurs, Sept 13 (for Section 4)
Purpose: To ensure your familiarity with creating a newsletter in Word.

Follow the instructions in Chapter 6 and submit your word document, "Health Bits Newsletter", with all the information covered up to WD 448. Do not print or make PDF's.

LP #3: Word: Chapter 5

Assigned: Wed, August 29 (for Section 2);
Thurs, August 30 (for Section 4)
Due: 15 minutes before class on Wed, Sept 5 (for Section 2);
15 minutes before class on Tues, Sept 4 (for Section 4)
Purpose: To ensure your familiarity with form letters, mailing labels, and envelopes in Word.

Follow the instructions in Chapter 5 and submit the following documents via blackboard (using the same instructions as for LP #2):

LP #2: Word: Chapter 4

Assigned: Fri, August 24 (for Section 2);
Thurs, August 23 (for Section 4)
Due: 15 minutes before class on Mon, August 27 (for Section 2);
15 minutes before class on Thurs, Aug 30 (for Section 4)
Purpose: To ensure your familiarity with creating a title page, table, chart and watermark in Word.

Follow the instructions in Chapter 4 and submit the word document, "Charity Auction Proposal" matching Figure 4-1 via blackboard. (Note that you can download all the needed graphics and documents from the course website under student downloads.

Handin instructions:
We will be using a different handin procedure than for LP#1, instructions are given in blackboard under assignments and bulleted instructions are listed here.
Steps to submit written assignments:
1. Complete your document using WORD software and save it to keep a record of your work.
2. Log onto Black Board, click on our course section, and click on the menu option named "Assignments".
3. Click on "Assignments" which will open your folder for all handin directories for your assignments. 4. Under the title "Lab Practice #2" there will be instructions followed by the underlined statement,"View/Complete Assignment:" Click on that underlined statement.
5. Your screen will then display three steps entitled "Upload Assignment." The first step is named Assignment Information.
6. The second step is named "Assignment Materials". There is a box for comments, designed for the student to send a message to the teacher. Next, is the indication "File to attach" before a smaller box appears next to a button labeled "Browse." Type in the name of your file and select the Browse button.
7. When you have selected the correct file, you may choose to select the SAVE button in step 3 so that you may work on the file whether or not you have your disk with you.
8. The mandatory part of step 3 is to click on the SUBMIT button.
9. At this point, Black Board magic takes over, and the teacher gets your document.
10. SUCCESS HINT: Include your name in the file name so that I will be less likely to confuse students' work

LP #1: Introduction to Blackboard

Assigned: Monday, August 20 (for Sections 7 & 9);
Tuesday, August 21 (for Section 13)
Due: 15 minutes before class on Wednesday, August 22 (for Sections 7 & 9);
15 minutes before class on Thursday, August 23 (for Section 13)
Purpose: To ensure your familiarity with the hand-in process for all assignments and to gain information about your course needs so we can shape the course to fit your class.

1. Log into your desktop computer (see your Course Info Sheet for directions)
2. Go to the class webpage: http://laura.goadrich.com/bpcc/ams/
3. At the menu on the left hand side, go to "Lab Practice"
4. Look under "LP#1" and download the information sheet.
5. Fill out the information sheet and submit it to blackboard by following the steps below.
(To get information about your typing speed, try a free typing test.)
6. When you are done, make sure you save your work. If you are in MS Word, look to the upper left hand corner, there will be a blinking button. Click on that button and you will see the option "Save As." Click on "Save As." By default this will save your file under "My Documents"; this is okay, but realize that when you log off this computer, you will lose any information (except if it is put under the Z drive or you save it to a flash drive).

Submitting files to blackboard.
1. Go to the blackboard site.
2. Log into Blackboard,
Username = your BPCC campus wide ID*
Password = your 6 digit birth date (i.e., January 1, 1980 would be entered as 010180)
* Your ID number was given to you when you registered with BPCC for the current semester. It is also located on the back of your BPCC student ID card.
3. Under "My Courses" click on our class and section.
4. Click on "Tools" on the right hand side, then click on "Digital Dropbox". This is a handin directory for you to turn in your work.
5. To turn in your assignment, click on "Send File" and "Browse" to find the correct file. Note that that in the "Name" field you need to include: FirstName LastName LP#1. (You do not have to fill out the "Comment" section.
